Matthew 6 (Jesus says)
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask HIM.
9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be THY name. (The Word of God.)
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread. (both spiritual and physical food)
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
(I often pray, "Deliver me from evil today." For there is much evil in the end times.)

Luke 21 (Jesus said:)
34 And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting (over indulgence), and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.
35 For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth.
36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Prayer connects us to God and makes us "worthy to escape", for we turned to God for HIS help.
Prayer is a instrument of peace, for by prayer we receive peace from God concerning the various troubles and concerns of the day.
Therefore the apostle Paul says:
Philippians 4:
7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Prayer
humbles us, showing that we do not trust in ourselves. Each time we
pray, we deliberately put our trust in God in the matter at hand.
I Peter 5
7 Casting all your care upon HIM; for HE careth for you.
8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith,
After we pray, God often brings us a scripture to mind or an instruction. By doing that scripture (or Word) we "resist the devil".
Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of HIS might.
(strong in the Lord: The Word which God gives you.)
John 8:31-32
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
