* Examples of prophets in the Bible in the New Testament Church

There are several examples of prophets working in the church in the New Testament Bible in the Book of Acts, men and women:  Philip's 4 daughters, Agabus, Silas who traveled with Paul, Judas surnamed Barsabas.  Showing the work of the prophets in the New Testament church.

Jesus gives ministries to the NT church after HE arose:

Ephesians 4:8;11-14   When HE (Jesus) ascended up on high, HE led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men ... And HE gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

(Paul was one of these apostles given to the church "after Jesus arose".   Paul was not the last apostle as some are taught in churches.  Paul was the first of the NT apostles given to the church by Jesus.)

12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:

14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Examples in Bible of prophets working in the New Testament church:

Acts 13:1  Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

(Both NT prophets and teachers were working in the church at Antioch.)

Acts 11:27-30 And in these days came prophets from Jerusalem unto Antioch.

28 And there stood up one of them named Agabus, and signified by the Spirit that there should be great dearth throughout all the world: which came to pass in the days of Claudius Caesar.

29 Then the disciples, every man according to his ability, determined to send relief unto the brethren which dwelt in Judaea:

30 Which also they did, and sent it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.

Acts 21:8-11 And the next day we that were of Paul's company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was one of the seven; and abode with him.

9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

***

Acts 21:10-11  And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

11 And when he was come unto us, he took Paul's girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.

Silas, a NT prophet, traveled with the apostle Paul:

Acts 15:32  And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

(Both Judas and Silas were NT prophets. This Judas was not the Judas who betrayed Jesus.)

***

Acts 15:40  And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

I John 5:14-15   And this is the confidence that we have in HIM (in God), that, if we ask any thing according to HIS will, HE heareth us:

15 And if we know that HE hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of HIM.

***

Acts 15:22  Then pleased it the apostles and elders with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas surnamed Barsabas and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

John the Baptist came before Jesus to prepare the way of the Lord in the first coming of Jesus.

Luke 1:11-17 An angel of the Lord appears to the father of John the Baptist:

11 And there appeared unto him (to Zacharias) an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

12 And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

13 But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

14 And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

16 And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

(This is the primary work of a prophet ... to turn the church to God ... to turn the church to the Holy Bible.)

17 And he (John the Baptist) shall go before HIM (before Jesus) in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Before the second coming of Jesus, NT prophets will do the same thing, preparing a people for the Lord by turning the church to the obedience of the Holy Bible.

Luke 1:76-80  Zacharias' prophesies over John the Baptist

76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare HIS ways;

77 To give knowledge of salvation unto HIS people by the remission of their sins,

78 Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

Judgment seat of Christ:

II Corinthians 5:10-11   For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;
